World of Warcraft Item Upgrades
Upgrades to items are a method to increase the stats of an item. Depending on the type of upgrade, it can increase the rarity of an item, or its Mark Level and increase other stats.
Each item has a track to upgrade it. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next item by a specified amount.
Item Level
When an item is upgraded, its stats increase in value. This is the sum of the perks that are leveled up (attack magic attack and defense). The cost of upgrading items can be high, depending on the upgrader and the kind of upgrade you decide to do. This is because of how many perks have to be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.
The level of an item is a popular measure of power, and can be seen on all item tooltips. It also serves to limit the amount of PvP gear players are able to wear, since PvP is limited at a lower level. The average level of the item can be found in the character sheet.
Using the item level can help players evaluate the potency of gear when deciding to purchase or sell. It's a good indicator of the quality of an item and how much damage it will be capable of dealing with. The level of an item can be used to evaluate items when looking at the inventory of a vendor.
The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on a PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the complete description of the item, including its level. It is also accessible by hovering an item with the mouse cursor, and then typing /itemlevel into chat.
There are various theories on how the calculation of an item's level is done. One theory is that the item level is a number derived from a formula that determines how much an item's stats are worth. It takes into account the fact that various perks have different value, and also that gems in sockets increase the value of the item overall. This process could result in a calculated value for the item's level, which is usually quite close to Blizzard's actual level of the item.
However, this isn't the only factor which affects an item's ilvl, since the level of the region the item was dropped in could alter the value of its stats, such as by adding an additional level to its crit rating or haste rating. This means that items dropped at higher levels will have higher value than items dropped in lower-level instances.
Item Stats
Stats on an item are a significant component of what makes or breaks an item for players. The game makes use of a lot of them in a variety of ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and also to stop one weapon from being "the best." The stat mods of an weapon increase the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by the player's level.
Upgrades to an item may increase the stats of an item. The upgrade costs are determined by the rarity of the item. For example, a grey or white item will only be upgraded once, whereas items with rare tiers can be upgraded many times with higher prices.
Affixes are a different method to change an item's stats. These are special stat boosts that can be added to an item by the player, and are available in all shapes and sizes. The affixes can provide the item extra damage, or give a specific capability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down the cooldowns) or make the item unique by adding a special name to the item.
Currently, all affixes can be rerolled by selecting them from the upgrade window and pressing the green button with circling arrows. This process will cost the player a certain amount of gold and items which can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as other rerolling options.
Players can choose to upgrade an item by a specific stat or reroll the affixes. The possible stat ranges for an item are determined by the item level, but every item is guaranteed to have at least 1 stat within that range, unless it is an item that is unique or the result of a God roll from a boss in a raid.
Another thing that could be changed is the possibility to upgrade equipment without having to reroll the attachments, or pick which stats to boost. However, as with the base equipment, this would need to be carried out on a per-item basis and the item compare interface would not display all the possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.
Item Luck
The Luck stat of a player increases the chance of finding items as well as the properties created by loot and the strength of these properties. It does not, however directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It merely gives the player a possibility to obtain better gear in earlier waves, and is therefore more beneficial in the early game as opposed to later ones, because most players value higher weapon scaling and defenses over the raw damage gain.
In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith's overall chance of upgrading that increases with each level and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.
Weapons, shields, and armor can be created or spawned using the Luck property, with a default value of 40. These items can be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to give +40 Luck, or to increase the Luck of the item up to 140.
Additionally, certain items, such as the Hollow infused weapon, can be equipped to increase the damage dealt by any damage-dealing skill by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shop or crafted by using the appropriate ingredients.
Item Failure
Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chance of success of an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item if it does not work.
When you upgrade an item the success rate is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading the item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special Materials. The probability of success can only be increased by so much, and the likelihood that an upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%..
The Luck of an item can affect the success of an upgrade. All items have an average success rate of 25%, and each item that has Luck increases this chance by five percent.
The upgrade overlays of the item are rendered above the items in the inventory. item upgrade could block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
